For Zimmer Biomet’s 4m x 3m L-shaped booth in a dimly lit conference area, Display Systems & Prints used a lightbox backdrop with floodlights, a 65-inch side-wall TV with seating, a discussion table and a long LED-lit front counter, turning a compact space into a bright, organised booth that stood out. This small booth design case study shows how lighting and placement solved a visibility problem that layout alone could not.

Below we cover the brief, the lighting-led design, and what to plan for when your booth sits in a dark corner of a Singapore venue.

Zimmer Biomet booth by Display Systems & Prints: lightbox backdrop with floodlights and an LED-lit front counter.

The brief: a professional space that invites interaction

Zimmer Biomet is a global medical technology company known for innovation and precision in healthcare. At the conference, the brand wanted a professional space that encouraged interaction while showcasing its offerings, including its ROSA Robotics display.

The booth was 4m x 3m, L-shaped and open on two sides. Two open sides give good visibility, but they also mean the booth is seen from two directions and needs careful planning. The goal was a booth that felt bright, welcoming and structured, while supporting both discussions and product display.

The challenge: a dim room and a full brief

The event area was dimly lit, which made visibility the main concern. A booth with ordinary printed graphics would have looked flat and been easy to walk past. At the same time, 12 sqm had to hold a bright backdrop, a discussion table, a presentation TV and a product display counter. Without a clear plan, the result could easily have been cluttered with poor flow.

Conference visitors are worth the effort. CEIR research found that 94% of trade show attendees have net buying influence for their organisation (CEIR, via Associations Now), and that two-thirds rate in-person contact as important while evaluating purchases (CEIR, via TSNN). A booth nobody notices loses those conversations before they start.

The design solutions

A lightbox backdrop with floodlights

A lightbox backdrop, combined with floodlights mounted above it, brightened the whole booth. Because a lightbox is lit from behind, the graphic glows on its own rather than depending on the room’s lighting, so the Zimmer Biomet branding and the ROSA Robotics visuals stayed clear in a dim setting. Our catalogue lists floodlights as an option with our lightbox systems, which can be built up to 3m tall and 12m long.

A side-wall TV with seating

A 65-inch TV was mounted on the side wall. Visitors could sit and watch the content comfortably without blocking the main flow through the booth, and the front of the booth stayed open.

A discussion table that kept the layout open

A dedicated discussion table gave staff a place for focused conversations. It was placed so the booth kept a professional setting without overcrowding the floor.

An LED-lit front counter

A long counter with LED lighting ran along the front, making the product display more visible and inviting visitors to step closer. Lit counters are part of our counter range, including LED column counters.

The result

The finished booth was bright, well structured and engaging, and it stood out in the dim event setting. The illuminated backdrop made the Zimmer Biomet branding and ROSA Robotics display clearly noticeable, the added lighting gave the booth a clean, premium look, the LED-lit counter drew visitors in, and the side screen with seating let people engage without disrupting the flow. Despite the 4m x 3m footprint, the booth felt open and organised, and Zimmer was highly satisfied with the result.

Planning a booth for a dim venue in Singapore

Not every event space is evenly lit. If your booth may sit in a dim area, plan for it:

  1. Light the graphics, not just the space. Backlit lightbox graphics and lit counters stay readable whatever the room lighting.
  2. Order enough power. Lightboxes, floodlights, LED counters and a TV all need power. At Suntec Singapore, electrical work is limited to licensed electrical workers on the venue’s accredited list (Suntec Singapore).
  3. Use certified materials. The same venue requires booth materials that are non-combustible or rated at least Class 2 for surface flame spread (Suntec Singapore materials).
  4. Keep fire equipment clear. Suntec requires a 1.5-metre clearance from firefighting equipment (Suntec Singapore). In a small booth, check the floor plan for hose reels and extinguishers nearby.
  5. Put screens on the side. A side-wall TV keeps the front open, which matters most when the booth is only 3 or 4 metres wide.

Frequently asked questions

How big was Zimmer Biomet’s booth?

It was a 4m x 3m L-shaped booth, about 12 sqm, open on two sides.

How do you make a booth stand out in a dimly lit venue?

Use backlit graphics and added lighting. Zimmer Biomet’s booth combined a lightbox backdrop with floodlights and an LED-lit front counter, so the branding stayed clear in a dim event area.

Where should a TV go in a small booth?

On a side wall with seating nearby, so viewers do not block the entrance. Zimmer Biomet’s 65-inch TV was mounted on the side wall for this reason.

Can you supply lightboxes and lit counters?

Yes. Our lightboxes can be built up to 3m tall and 12m long, with floodlight and LED header options, and our counter range includes LED column counters.

Conclusion

Space was not the real limitation for Zimmer Biomet’s booth; light was. With intentional lighting and placement from Display Systems & Prints, a compact booth in a dim room became bright, open and easy to engage with.
